This section demonstrates how to use the Construction Zone Manager to create zones.

Zones can be assigned to temp tasks to display at specific times during a construction animation.

This is a great way to show which areas of the construction site are currently active.

The Gantt Chart must be displayed to assign zones to tasks. The Show Task List radio button toggles whether the Gantt Chart is displayed while the Construction Zone Manager is open.

A zone can be added to a temp task. similar to normal objects zones are displayed during the duration of the temp task.

Zones are an especially useful tool for sectioning a model, filtering objects and displaying areas of intrest.

  • Zones can be used with a Zone Rule when creating Filters.

  • Zones can be used with a Zone Classification Mapping in 4D Automation.

  • Zones can be added Task and displayed during a construction simulation. For more information see Adding Zones to Tasks.

The Construction Zone Manager is used to create and manage zones and is opened using the Zoning button located within the 4D Simulation toolbox.

When the Construction Zone Manager is opened the 3D Scene will change to an alternate render mode and a top down orthographic view to allow the user to easily see where the zone should be placed.

Construction zones are created with at drawing tool that allows the user to make free form extrusions to describe the area that the zone encapsulates.

Use the Create button to start creating a zone. Next click in the 3D scene to place each corner of the zone. in order to complete drawing the zone you must place at least 3 points.

If a zone does not have enough points they are displayed as red lines.

A solid green line is always a permanent line and will be added as an edge of the zone. The Pink line desribes the line that will be added to the zone bounds once the user clicks in that location. The dotted green line describes the last line in the shape. If more lines are added the dotted line will change. If the zone is completed the dotted line

will become an edge.

Use the ESC key to complete drawing lines for the zone.

Use the Backspace key to undo a point and redraw a zone edge.

After the Bounds of the zone are drawn the user is able to select the height of the zone separately. Use the blue arrows to adjust the height of the zone.

Selecting the Color allows the user to change the color and opacity of the zone.

The Delete button removes the currently selected zone.

The Edit button opens Transformation Tool to edit the currently selected zone.

The Transformation Tool allows you to manipulate the zone like any other 3D object. To filter by a zone, create a new filter in your Filter Tab, edit it and select zone from the drop down menu and select your newly created zone. This filter can then be used to populate your task with all of the objects located in your zone.

allows the user to make changes to the zone.

Updating Zones

Learn how to update zones to control which objects they select

When using zones for filtering it is important to understand how zones function in Fuzor. Zones are designed to contain a snapshot of a model. A zone is associated with the objects that are visible in the model and contained within the zone when it is created, edited or updated. This allows the user to create separate sets of zones for different model sets or sequences.

When highlight a zone will highlight the objects it is associated with and not necessarily what is visible in the scene at the time.

A user may need to update a zone in order for it to select new objects.

The Update Zones button in the 4D toolbox updates all the zones in the project. all zones are updated to associate with objects that are currently visible in the model and contained within the zone.

Learn how to assign zones to tasks.

A construction simulation may need to show where and at what times construction zones are currently active. An ideal presentation would be able reveal and show a construction zone based on schedule data.

Zones can be assigned to temp tasks to display at specific times during a construction simulation. This allows the user to control Zone visibility with the 4D schedule and display the zones in flythrough videos.

This is a great way to show which areas of the construction site are currently active.

This Example shows zoning in flythrough. Task background colors, filter highlight colors, and 3D marker background colors have been edited to match the color of the zones and provide a clear presentation.

The Show Task List radio button toggles whether the Gantt Chart is displayed while the Construction Zone Manager is open. The Gantt Chart and the Construction Zone Manager must be displayed so that the user can select both a task and a Zone at the same time.

Enable Zone Edit must be active in order to remove or add selected zones to tasks.
